I’m super frustrated because the only game I’ve been looking forward to all year, Doom: The Dark Ages, keeps crashing on startup when I try to play it on Linux. I know it runs on the Steam Deck, so I’m wondering how they managed to fix it there, and I wish Valve would share that information with us. I’m thinking about switching back to Windows until I can get this sorted out. Has anyone else faced this issue?

Waiting a week might help! There are bound to be fixes, especially since it’s a game that uses Vulkan, which generally supports Linux well. Just remember, this game wasn’t promised to run flawlessly on your OS.
You might want to check ProtonDB for user reports. Just give it some time for others to poke around, it should get better soon!
I’ve tried different Proton versions already, and now I’m soft-locked for 24 hours. It’s such a pain!
It seems like buying games just after release can lead to hiccups, not just on Linux but everywhere. It’s quite common to run into issues right off the bat.
I’m definitely not expecting the game to be perfect, just that it should at least launch!
A lot of different factors to consider. The game just released, and many users on Windows are having trouble too. Plus, it’s not optimized for Linux, so you’re bound to see issues. You really should give it a bit of time for patches—if you’re this upset, maybe Windows is the way to go for now.
Just hang tight! Usually, a fix is released after launch. In the meantime, you might find other great games to dive into.
Patience has never been my strong suit, though.
Yeah, but I paid for it and expected a better experience right away! This was the one game I was really looking forward to.
