I’ve been noticing a lot of animosity between players on different platforms, especially during cross-play sessions. Every time I’m on my PS5, I often run into PC players who seem to lose it over my gameplay, leading to team kills. On the flip side, when I’m on PC, I encounter PS5 players who react similarly with anger and surprise attacks on my location. It makes me wonder: why are we throwing so much shade at one another? If the rivalry is that intense, why not just turn off cross-platform play? We’re all in this together, trying to promote a sense of community in our gaming world, right?

Honestly, I think some players just need a target to direct their frustrations at. Not everyone really checks what platform others are on unless something seems off, like if someone is playing weirdly or has a mic blasting noise. But those toxic players? They’re always out looking for any excuse to throw shade, and knowing someone is on a different platform gives them that chance to throw insults pretty easily.
From what I’ve seen, when cross-play is active, there’s definitely a higher chance of running into selfish players and griefers. I think many PS5 players tend to skew younger, which might explain some of the toxicity. But it’s funny because from my experience, those griefer behaviors can flip either way—I’ve definitely met toxic players on PC throwing around their ‘superiority’!
This rivalry isn’t new! It’s been around forever, especially in competitive games like Apex Legends. While the differences in input devices can lead to varied experiences, we should remember that we’re all here to enjoy the game, right? It’s particularly silly in games like Helldivers, where it shouldn’t really matter what platform you’re on. But yeah, mouse and keyboard is still king in FPS games, no denying that!
