I’ve been playing Terraria with my mom, and we’ve successfully taken down several bosses like Skeletron and the Wall of Flesh without any trouble. We even managed to defeat the three mechanical bosses easily, including fighting one during a blood moon and accidentally defeating the Destroyer without any potions or arena. However, when we try to explore the dungeon, it feels impossible! We’ve died multiple times trying to reach a single biome chest, despite using calming potions, peace candles, and a variety of buffs.
We’re equipped with a full set of adamantite armor, ank shield, lightning boots, and harpy wings, and we’re close to max health with around 12 life fruits each. I switch between weapons like the crystal serpent, sunfury, and molten fury with jester arrows, and I summon minions like the twins or imps. My mom primarily uses the crystal serpent and a melee weapon like a beam sword, along with some minions.
We’re confused about why we’re breezing through bosses and then getting overwhelmed in the dungeon. Is there something we’re missing in gear or strategy?

The post-Plantera dungeon is known to be brutal due to the sheer number of enemies. Hallowed armor would be a significant upgrade from adamantite, especially with its set bonuses. Try clearing out some areas to give you more space to move around. Also, don’t underestimate sentries like the spider one—those can really help in managing crowds!
When tackling the dungeon, consider your strategy. Unlike bosses where you can create a wide-open area to dodge, the dungeon presents tight spaces filled with truly powerful enemies. Each environment requires different skill sets! Plus, you might want to adjust your minion setup. Switching the twins for a more effective damage source could make a difference.
It sounds like your gear might not be up to par for dungeon exploration after Plantera. The dungeon spawns some late-game enemies that can really swarm you, especially with your current setup. I’d recommend checking the wiki for better options like Hallowed or Chlorophyte armor to better match your progression level. The weapons and armor you’re using aren’t really meant for taking on higher-tier enemies yet.
I totally get the frustration! It’s wild how you can handle bosses but then get wrecked in the dungeon. I guess the game just scales the difficulty differently.
A fun tip—try approaching the dungeon from the outside; the enemies won’t spawn unless you’re right up against the walls. You might be able to snag some loot without facing too much resistance. And yeah, consider using a weapon like the Megashark for DPS once you’re more confident in the dungeon!
That makes sense! I hadn’t thought about how the boss fights and dungeon runs require different strategies. Thanks for the insight!
