My mum and I have been playing Terraria together and breezed through Skeletron and other pre-hardmode bosses. We even took down the Wall of Flesh without breaking a sweat and managed to defeat all three mechanical bosses—including one during a blood moon—without any fancy setups or potions. It all felt pretty easy! But when we venture into the dungeon, it’s like we’re suddenly hit with a wall of difficulty.
We’ve tried everything, from calming potions to peace candles and multiple buffs, but we keep dying almost instantly to the enemies, especially those pesky magic casters that attack from through walls. It’s incredibly frustrating because we both have full adamantite armor, upgraded accessories, and decent weapons. We’re usually running around with a defense of 60+ and have maxed out health with life fruits.
I’ve got a mix of weapons including the Crystal Serpent and Sunfury, and my mum uses a Crystal Serpent alongside her melee options. Yet, we keep getting overwhelmed when trying to loot biome chests in the dungeon. Can anyone help us understand why the dungeon is so much harder than the bosses we’ve been smashing?

Your gear is likely holding you back. Even if you’re crushing bosses, the dungeon’s post-Plantera enemies require higher-level armor and weapons. Try upgrading to Hallowed or Chlorophyte armor; they’ll offer much better protection against those swarms. After Plantera, the dungeon’s spawns can get relentless, so you might want to make sure you’re geared up for it.
That’s what I don’t get! How are we doing so well against bosses but struggling here?
