I’m curious about the size of the Discord server for Baldur’s Gate 3. This subreddit boasts nearly 3 million users, yet the Discord has fewer than 200,000 members. It seems pretty inactive compared to smaller communities like r/BG3 or r/okbuddybaldur. Typically, Discord communities are way more lively, so why does this game’s server appear so small?

Honestly, I’m not sure why it’s so small either. Maybe the fanbase is a bit older? I mean, I honestly don’t even know what Discord really is!
If we’re talking about the Larian Discord, that’s a whole different crowd than what’s on Reddit. Plus, many newer players might hop onto the subreddit and then move on, so the 2.9 million accounts might not all be active.
I think a lot of people underestimate how many fans actually use Reddit over Discord. The subreddit has grown from earlier DnD or Baldur’s Gate communities that existed before Discord, and I just don’t think the RPG crowd has fully embraced Discord yet. Reddit was always the spot for this game’s fans.
Oh, Discord is mainly a group chat platform that’s super popular with gamers. It’s been around for a bit, about ten years now, and it’s different from apps like GroupMe or Slack since it’s more focused on gaming communities.
