Why is the combat in Assassin's Creed Unity so frustrating?

-

Hey everyone! I’m a new player diving into Assassin’s Creed Unity for the first time, and I have to say, the controls are really throwing me off. I just finished playing Rogue and I can’t believe the two games were released on the same day—it’s like one can read my inputs and the other can’t! When I try to parry during combat and the icon turns yellow, Arno often ignores my input and just gets stabbed instead. It’s making it super tough to complete missions and I’m almost pulling my hair out. Stealth works fine for picking off enemies one by one, but I really want to engage in combat when needed! Plus, it feels like I get one-shotted by enemies, which seems off given my skills aren’t maxed out yet. I’m pretty good with button inputs (I’ve played a lot of games with complicated mechanics), so what’s going wrong? Any tips or suggestions?

Unity’s combat can definitely feel punishing! It’s designed to make you focus more on stealth rather than going in guns blazing. My advice? Use your tools wisely, like smoke bombs to create diversions, and don’t rush headlong into fights. It really shines when you play it slow and strategic.

Remember, in Unity, timing is everything. When that parry icon appears, only press it once. Spamming doesn’t help much here, and rolling away from gunshots is crucial. Also, keep an eye on your gear rating; fighting higher-level foes is just asking for trouble. Try to pick battles that you can manage.

Totally get your frustration! Unity’s combat mechanics are tricky, but once you get the hang of it, it pays off. If you find yourself overwhelmed, remember that it’s okay to sneak around instead. The game encourages a more stealthy approach, especially since Arno isn’t as overpowering as previous protagonists. Also, consider tackling co-op missions with friends later on for some fun!

Combat in Unity really emphasizes discipline. Unlike Rogue, where you could smash buttons and win, Unity requires you to be tactical. Get familiar with perfect parries and don’t get discouraged by early-game struggles. Upgrade your gear and skills as you progress, and consider checking out some videos for better strategies.
