Hey folks, I’m having some trouble with The Binding of Isaac on my 1TB OLED Steam Deck. I bought the deck mainly to play this game, but I’ve noticed performance issues that confuse me. Small rooms run at about 55 FPS, larger rooms drop to around 50 FPS, and during a run with Monstro’s Lung and Almond Milk, I saw FPS drop all the way to around 30. My Steam Deck settings are untouched with a 90 FPS cap, and other games like GTA V, Last Epoch, Cyberpunk, and Ballart run fine with no issues. I’m not sure why TBOI is having such weird frame drops. Has anyone experienced this or have suggestions on what I could tweak or check? Any tips or fixes would be appreciated!

First things first, check if your Steam Deck resolution or any scaling features got changed accidentally. Sometimes supersampling or dynamic resolution can kick in and tank performance. It’s worth going into the quick settings and making sure your resolution stays consistent and no extra scaling is enabled. That alone has fixed weird framerate drops for me before.
I’ve tested TBOI on my Deck too, and on the rebirth version I can maintain a steady 60 FPS at low TDP settings, except for the brief dips when crossing doors, which seems pretty normal. Maybe check if you’re playing Repentance or a modded version? Those can sometimes be heavier and cause fluctuating FPS, especially in bigger rooms or prolonged runs with certain item combos.
Yeah, I’m on Repentance and I’ve noticed those frame dips too. It’s becoming a bit annoying, especially since my other games have no such problems. Maybe the new content is just more demanding.
Thanks! I double-checked and my settings are pretty much default with no extra scaling. I’ve attached screenshots of my settings to make sure there’s nothing off, but everything looks normal so far.
