I’m having a tough time with the desktop version of my Steam Deck. The keyboard works for about ten minutes and then just stops responding. It’s super frustrating because the buttons mostly don’t seem to register any presses, except for the Steam button and the three dots, but I can’t get past not being able to press ‘A’ on anything. Is this an issue I’m causing, or is there a specific setting or update I need to check to make it work better? I’m getting close to returning it, but I’m hoping it’s something simple!

It sounds like you’re struggling with the desktop mode specifically. Remember that while you’re in desktop mode, the triggers act as mouse clicks. If the keyboard is not working, try downloading KDE Connect on your phone. Pair it with your Steam Deck, and you can use your phone as a keyboard and mouse, which might solve your issues!
Good idea! I didn’t know about KDE Connect either, I’ll try that!
Just a heads up, when you’re on the desktop, ‘A’ isn’t used for selection. You actually need to use the right trigger to select things. It’s more like mouse control rather than console controls. If you have a Bluetooth mouse handy, that makes navigating the desktop a lot easier! I get that issues with the keyboard can be annoying, good luck!
Yep, it can be a pain. Just make sure you’re in the right ‘mode’. If you hold down the ‘start’ button for a few seconds, a notification should pop up telling you which mode you’re in. Switching modes can feel a bit weird sometimes, so check that out!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check out that app.
