I just upgraded my GPU to an RTX 5080 PNY from a 3070 and also switched from a 750W PSU to a 1000W one to accommodate it. I tested it out with MH Wilds and was disappointed to see only a 10 fps increase at high settings on 1440p, which I was already using with my 3070. I’ve updated all the drivers and I’m unsure why the performance boost isn’t what I expected. My full build includes an i9 10900KF, H115i Platinum Corsair cooler, 32GB of RAM, and a 1440p 144 Hz LG ULTRAGEAR monitor. Also, I’m pretty new to PC building, and my water cooling seems to be acting up, causing my CPU to heat up a bit (around 50/60 degrees idle). Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

It sounds like you might be running into performance issues with MH Wilds specifically, as it’s known to be CPU-intensive. Since your CPU is still the same, it might struggle a bit more now that you have a more powerful GPU, leading to less of a performance increase. Have you tried checking your CPU usage while gaming? That might give you some insight.
Since you mentioned it’s your first time changing the GPU and PSU, double-check all your connections and make sure everything is seated properly. Sometimes a loose cable can cause performance problems. Also, monitor your CPU temps; if it’s getting too hot, that can throttle your performance as well. Might want to look into that water cooling issue too!
What kind of monitor are you using? Sometimes the display can also limit performance if it’s not able to handle the higher frame rates you’re expecting, especially with an older setup.
I’m using a 1440p 144Hz monitor and haven’t had any issues before this upgrade.
Yeah, I’ve heard that game can really hammer your CPU, so it makes sense why the upgrade isn’t super noticeable.
