I’ve had my PS5 since 2020, but for the past 7-8 months, it has been randomly shutting off while I play certain games for too long. It’s not a normal shutdown; I can’t turn it back on with the power button, and the light completely goes off. To get it to turn back on, I have to unplug the power cord, plug it back in, unplug it again, and then plug it back in again. This issue occurs with games like Fortnite, 2K25, DB Sparking Zero, and MH Wilds. I’ve attempted to clean it myself and even took it to professionals, but nothing seems to help.

You’re definitely not alone. This issue mainly happens to me with PS5 games; I can play PS4 titles for hours without a hitch. For PS5 games, it just shuts down after about 30-45 minutes. I’ve been streaming them to get around the issue, which seems to help! Maybe check out PlayStation Plus Premium for streaming options if that’s an option for you.
It sounds like the power supply is overheating. What you might need to do is deep clean it or even consider replacing the power supply itself. Sometimes, a thorough cleaning can really help.
I had the same issue, but vacuuming the fan and cleaning the dust catchers did the trick for me.
It’s tough to say without understanding exactly what cleaning steps you’ve taken. You mentioned cleaning it, but what does that include?
I took off the plates, used canned air, dust catchers, and even vacuumed. After several tries, I took it to a pro, but still no real improvement.
Have you checked if there’s an NVMe drive installed? Without a proper heatsink, those drives can overheat and cause problems like this when running newer games.
I haven’t looked into that. What’s an NVMe drive?
I’ve cleaned it multiple times, and had a professional do it too, but all it did was increase the playtime before it overheats.
