I’m using an HP Victus 15 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPU and an AMD Radeon RX 6550M GPU, which should have 4GB of video memory. But when I play games like Titanfall and Insurgency Sandstorm, the game reports only 512MB of VRAM. I haven’t upgraded any hardware recently, so I’m wondering if the games are actually running on the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU. I don’t have a straightforward way to check which GPU the games are using. Has anyone experienced this or know if this is a game bug, hardware issue, or something on my end? How can I fix this VRAM detection and ensure the game uses the proper GPU?

Your games are likely running on the integrated GPU, which is why they only show 512MB VRAM. To force your system to use the dedicated AMD Radeon RX 6550M, go to Windows 11 Display Settings > Graphics settings. From there, set the preferred GPU for each game to “High performance,” choosing your AMD GPU. Restart the game after applying this.
In Windows 11, you can right-click the desktop, open Display Settings, then scroll down to the Graphics section. In Advanced graphics settings, you should see an option to set the default high-performance GPU to your dedicated AMD card instead of the integrated one. After changing that, restart your game and see if it recognizes the right VRAM amount.
I looked in Advanced Graphics settings, but the only option I can find there is Variable Refresh Rate — no option to set the default high-performance GPU anywhere.
I tried changing the per-app GPU preference, but the game crashes after about 30 seconds saying the GPU is too small. Also, I’m not sure where to see which GPU the game is using in Task Manager on Windows 11. This is for Insurgency Sandstorm, I already uninstalled Titanfall a while ago.
