I’m using a 7900 XTX GPU on CachyOS and I’ve noticed that it’s only drawing about 150 Watts of power, which feels low for this setup. I’m running with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, and the rest of my specs are decent, but I’m not seeing the performance I expected. I’ve tried out different power profiles in LACT, including manual settings, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else faced similar issues, or do you have any suggestions to fix the low performance?

It sounds like you might be running into a bug with the RDNA3 architecture on Linux. I had a similar issue with my 7800 XT and it was quite frustrating. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a solid fix for it. Maybe checking the latest updates or patches could help since it’s apparently a known issue that was supposed to be fixed.
Could you share more details about the bug? I also have a 7800XT and I’m curious if it affects performance.
I’m using a 7900 XTX on Debian without any issues. I don’t tweak any profiles and it works fine. Have you tested performance using Cyberpunk 2077? I usually pull about 290W power usage without a hitch. What’s your GPU utilization when it’s drawing that low power? How are you measuring your power usage?
I’m getting around 79% GPU utilization at 1500 Mhz, and I measure it with LACT and MangoHud.

Your power draw sounds low for that GPU. I have a 7900 XT and I raised my power limit to 333W, and my performance has actually improved compared to Windows. You might want to check if you’re restricting frames or using a compatibility layer like Proton. Are you using the Mesa-git version? It can have its own set of issues.
Right, I used stock CachyOS but switched to Mesa-git for some fixes. It did help with other issues, just not performance.
Can you clarify how you’re using Mesa, RADV, and AMDGPU together? I’m not sure how to set those up if needed.
Are you using separate PCIe cables for your GPU? If you’re using a splitter, it might not be providing enough power to your GPU, which could explain the low draw.
OMG! I think you’re onto something. I am using a splitter. Let me check this out!
I’ve played around with LACT on my 7900 XTX and found that sticking to automatic settings for performance works much better than manual configs. Make sure you’ve enabled AMD overclocking properly. Also, be careful with max clock settings; a slight undervolt might help. Reboot after changes worked for me.
I enabled AMD overclock and rebooted, and input my specs correctly. I’ll try undervolting.
Yeah, I really don’t want to reinstall Windows, but issues like this can make it tempting! It’s definitely a bummer.
