I’ve been experiencing some odd VRAM allocation issues on my system while playing Monster Hunter Worlds. I have an AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT with 12 GB of VRAM, yet even when I set the game to minimal settings and enable upscaling, it still consumes around 3.5 GB of VRAM. Beyond that, other applications are pulling in another 4-5 GB, even though I’m only running Steam in the background. This leaves me puzzled about why so much of my VRAM is being reserved. By the way, Mangohub indicates that I’m using 95% of my GPU. Here are my system specs for reference: Nobara Linux 41, KDE Plasma Version 6.3.2, AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, and 31.3 GiB of RAM. Has anyone had a similar experience or have any insights on this?

You’re not alone! I’ve read that this might be a driver issue with your GPU. Waiting for the latest drivers to roll out could resolve your problem. Hang tight!
If you’re on mesa 25.0.x, it might be a known bug that’s causing this weird reporting of VRAM usage. There’s a merge request out to fix it, so keep an eye out for updates!
I had a similar situation. Make sure to check what nvtop reports while you’re running the game. I used it on my AMD setup and noticed my VRAM spiking to max while playing. It could give you more info on what’s going wrong.
Thanks for the tip! I checked it out, and when idle, my usage was fine, but it shot up to 100% during gameplay. Looks like it’s not just me!
Oh nice, I heard that just got merged! Hopefully the latest update will sort this out for everyone.
