I’ve been getting about 50-70 fps in Monster Hunter World on my laptop, while a friend using the same model on Windows is hitting 120+ fps. I’ve only started playing MHW recently, so I’m wondering if this low performance is common on Linux? Just for context, I can run Helldivers 2 on high settings and get similar or better performance. I have tried multiple Proton versions, disabled overlays, and even adjusted several settings, but nothing seems to help. I’m on Cachyos with a Ryzen 4800H, 1660ti mobile GPU, and 16GB of RAM, along with the latest drivers.

Sounds frustrating! It does seem like there’s a performance gap between Linux and Windows for some games, including MHW. One thing to check is if your laptop is set to use the dedicated GPU instead of the integrated one. Sometimes, laptops have settings that can default to the less powerful option which can hold back performance, even if you don’t have hybrid graphics enabled.
Yeah, your friend’s claims seem a bit off. While MHW isn’t the most demanding visually, it should run decently well even on lower settings. It’s good that you’ve checked GPU usage — you might also want to look at your power settings and ensure that the laptop isn’t throttling performance due to heat or power management settings.
