Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some help here. I recently switched to Linux Mint on my computer, and I’ve noticed that Minecraft isn’t performing as well as it did on Windows 10. I suspect it might be due to some settings being off or possibly due to missing optimization mods. I’ve adjusted the settings to match what I had on Windows and even installed the Sodium mod, which I used back on Windows. However, the game still feels laggy. I’ve noticed that mobs seem to respond to their environment with a delay, which might be related to some internal server delay since I mainly play singleplayer. I’m also experiencing significant lag spikes when moving around and loading new chunks, especially where mobs might appear.
I’ve tried installing a few other performance mods without success and made sure to update my graphics drivers using the Driver Manager (switched to the latest NVIDIA drivers available).

Have you tried using the Prism launcher? Some users find it helps with performance on Linux systems.
The OpenGL support for NVIDIA GPUs on Linux isn’t as good as on Windows. You might want to run Minecraft using Zink to improve performance. It translates OpenGL calls to Vulkan, which can help. If you decide to use PrismLauncher, it makes enabling Zink easier. If you’re looking for alternatives, you can set the following environment variables: `__GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=mesa`, `MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink`, `GALLIUM_DRIVER=zink`. Just make sure to give that a shot!
I tried running PrismLauncher based on your suggestion, but I ran into some errors that cause the game to crash when I check the Zink option. It works fine without it, though.
That advice might not be suitable for everyone. It’s worth trying a few different approaches to see what works best for your setup.
Could you share a screenshot of your F3 stats while playing? It can help figure out what’s going on with your performance.
Here’s the screenshot you asked for:
I haven’t used Prism launcher because I’ve heard that some of those ‘better’ launchers can lead to account issues and scams.
