I’m having a bizarre issue with my PC while playing Far Cry 4. It has a 7600x CPU and a 7800xt GPU on a B560 Wifi motherboard, and my CPU temps are skyrocketing to 95°C even though the CPU usage is only around 60%. I’ve played plenty of demanding titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and The Last of Us remastered, all on ultra settings, without ever hitting these temps. I’ve tried lowering the graphics settings and capping the FPS, but nothing seems to help. Can anyone explain why this older game is putting so much strain on my system, and do you have any tips to cool it down?

First off, it’s worth noting that CPU temp readings can be a bit misleading. They often reflect the highest core temperature at any given moment rather than the overall CPU load. So even if your total usage is low, one core might be working overtime. To really diagnose your issue, try running a multi-core benchmark like Cinebench. If your CPU is hitting 95°C, it’s likely thermal throttling, meaning it’s getting hot enough to slow down. Upgrading to a better cooler could really help you out!
I had a similar problem, and I found a simple fix! After watching a YouTube video, I changed my power plan to limit the CPU to 99%, and my temps dropped dramatically from 95°C to around 60-63°C. It’s worth giving that a shot if you haven’t already!
I appreciate the tips! But how exactly would those benchmarks help me figure this out? If I run it, will it show me what I need to do next to fix this temperature issue?
