I’ve recently upgraded to a Lenovo Legion 7i laptop and installed Fedora Linux with the CachyOS kernel. However, I’ve noticed that Diablo 3 and 4 are running slower than they did on my previous laptop with Windows 11. My old setup could keep up with Windows performance, but I’m struggling to achieve the same level on this one. I’m looking for suggestions on how to improve my gaming performance on Linux. Here are my specs:
– Lenovo Legion 7 16IRX9
– Intel® Core™ i9-14900HX
– NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 4060 8GB Laptop GPU
– 16GB Memory
– 1TB NVME Solid State Drive
– Fedora Linux Workstation 41 (Cachy OS kernel Linux 6.13.6)
– NVIDIA Driver 570.124.04

I’ve had better luck with my AMD GPU on Linux, but it’s true that NVIDIA is still working on optimizing their drivers. It’s always a head-scratcher why the Windows drivers outperform the Linux ones. By the way, what were your old laptop’s specs? It might help figure out more about your performance drop.
Have you tried using the latest NVIDIA opensource drivers? If you’re on CachyOS, there might be some settings associated with Wayland. Switching to X11 might yield better results. Plus, exploring the latest Lutris updates can sometimes help with performance too.
It sounds like you’re experiencing the classic NVIDIA optimization issues on Linux. In general, many find that NVIDIA graphics performance is better on Windows. I’ve got a 4070 Ti Super myself and can definitely say Windows tends to deliver better FPS overall. It might be worth checking if there are any specific settings or tweaks for gaming on Linux that could help.
Yeah, I’ve noticed the same for DX12 titles. Linux can be a bit more GPU-bound while Windows seems more CPU-focused in those scenarios. It’s a bit of a trade-off, I guess.
