I’ve noticed a big shift from being able to climb almost anything in Valhalla, even sheer cliff faces, to struggling to scale even a rock in Shadows. This change has been the most frustrating part of the game for me. After all, climbing should be a fundamental part of our experiences in these worlds. Anyone else share this frustration?

I feel you! In Valhalla, you could scale mountains like a beast, but now in Shadows, it’s like you can’t climb anything unless it’s perfectly designed for it. It’s super frustrating, especially when movement is a core part of the gameplay. Why can’t we just climb freely like before?
Honestly, I hated the climb-everything mechanic in Origins. It made parkour feel mindless. The new system in Shadows encourages you to engage with the terrain again, which I think adds more depth. Sure, it’s not as easy, but it makes climbing more meaningful. Maybe instead of just climbing anywhere, they should introduce more dedicated routes to explore?
I agree on needing better routes and interactive spots! I think we’ve got to push for more challenge without dumbing down the experience.
Honestly, I think players asked for more realistic climbing mechanics. While I get the desire for ease, I think eliminating the ability to climb everything offers a better challenge, making you think creatively about how to scale terrain. At least it’s a bit more balanced now!
I just hope they don’t overcorrect and make it impossible to have fun climbing. It’s all about finding the right balance.
I see your point. The earlier games did have a level of immersion where you had to think about how to traverse the environment, like in the Ezio era. I actually love that climbing requires strategy again, rather than just spamming a button.
Same here! Those moments where you have to scout for your path make it feel like you’re actually exploring a real world.
Exactly! Feels like they’ve taken a step back. What happened to just enjoying the freedom of climbing everything? It feels restrictive now.
