I’ve been having some serious performance issues with Apex Legends on my PC. I’ve got an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070, an Intel i7-12700KF (12 core, 3.6GHz, no overclock), and 32GB of RAM. My internet speeds are solid too, with downloads never dipping below 250Mbps and uploads staying above 25Mbps.
The weird part is that every game runs super smoothly, but Apex is lagging like crazy, even in the firing range. I notice it when I shoot at dummies; sometimes there’s a 5-second delay before my shots register, which gets even worse in online matches. Is there any setting I could be missing that might fix this?

First off, if you haven’t yet, try using DDU to completely uninstall your graphics drivers and then reinstall the latest ones. Once that’s done, let the shader cache rebuild when you launch Apex. Also, check your game files for integrity to rule out any issues there. If things still aren’t great, give DX11 a shot by changing the settings to start the game with that. You can do this in the properties menu or through a command line option.
It sounds like it could be your network setup causing the lag. If you’re on Wi-Fi, consider switching to a wired connection using an ethernet cable. If that doesn’t help, disconnect any other devices from your router and see if that improves things. You can also connect your PC to a mobile hotspot to test if it’s a router issue. Plus, enabling in-game statistics will give you a clearer view of your latency and packet loss, so you can track what’s really going on.
What game recording software were you using before? Was it the built-in Steam thing? Because that can definitely affect performance. If it was, you might have to tweak some settings to optimize it, but if you’ve already fixed the lag by turning it off, maybe you don’t need to stress about it right now!
Have you checked your BIOS settings? Look for something called Intel Speed Step; if it’s enabled, try turning it off. Then, enable Intel Speed Shift instead. This can help with performance issues in some cases.
