I’ve been thinking about why Blizzard hasn’t included a loot filter in Diablo IV. They claim it’s because they want us to utilize everything we find, even items we don’t need, to keep the game engaging and encourage us to scrap gear for materials or aspects. That makes sense while leveling up, but when we reach the end game and have mountains of materials, it’s tough to wade through all the unnecessary loot. Shouldn’t we have a loot filter to focus on the high-value items for optimizing our builds? What are your thoughts? Is there another reason they might not want to implement this feature? Are they afraid that with a loot filter, there’d be nothing left on the ground, especially at Torment 4?

Honestly, I think Torment 4 should just auto-scrap anything that isn’t ancestral gear. We’re all sifting through so much unwanted loot; a toggle for auto-scrapping would really streamline things. I mean, how hard would that be to implement?
Exactly! Just a simple toggle in the options menu would solve so many issues without overcomplicating things.
Blizzard seems to think that if they introduce a loot filter, players will just filter out the majority of items and then complain there’s not enough loot dropping. It’s a gamble for them, they’d rather keep us picking up everything, even if it’s just to keep the crafting economy alive.
Definitely! It’s weird because they already struggled with finding a balance previously during seasons. If they just allowed us to filter out low-quality gear, we might end up seeing complaints about a shortage of materials.
I feel like the current system acts as a sort of makeshift loot filter. You end up scrapping everything that isn’t a gear aspect anyway, right? In endgame, it only takes a few seconds to check your inventory, and you barely pay attention to non-ancestral drops anymore.
Totally. Players need to actually engage with the crafting/salvage system to make full use of the materials; a loot filter would almost make that redundant.
But where does that end? Next, it’ll be ‘just scrap anything that isn’t 2-star’—it’s a slippery slope.
