I recently started playing Guild Wars 2 and I’m working my way through the early story of the new expansion. I noticed that my Warclaw mount has a pretty rough look with horns and scales, while the Journeykin is adorable and floofy! Do I have any options to get a cuter skin for the Warclaw, or is the Journeykin skin a premium option?

The Warclaw was designed several years ago, primarily for use in World vs. World (WvW), so there wasn’t a big focus on making it visually appealing. The Journeykin is a newer skin that you can actually unlock through playing the story, not a premium option! Just finish some story missions and you’ll get the cuter skin as a reward!
Honestly, the difference in appearance comes down to the years of graphic updates and improvements. The original Warclaw skin was created with older technology, while the Journeykin benefits from the advancements made over the years in the game’s engine! It’s pretty common to see new content look better because of that.
You can get the Journeykin skin for your Warclaw for free! Once you’re completed with the initial story segment where you acquire the Warclaw, just check your Hero panel under mounts and you should find the skin available for use! It’s a nice perk of owning the new expansion.
Oh, sweet! I can’t wait to unlock it!
The Warclaw has a more rugged design, being intended for war, while the Journeykin is simply a cute, regular mount. If you’re looking for more Journeykin skins in the game, I’d love that too! It would be awesome to have more variety to choose from!
In WvW, the Warclaw is seen as a war mount with armor and a spirit of a beast bound to it. The Journeykin skin, in contrast, represents an original creature from the game’s lore. You receive the Journeykin skin automatically once you complete the necessary story achievements in the new expansion. It’s basically part of the lore and design choice between an armored mount and a real fluffy creature!
Thanks for the info!
