I recently got a PS5 and I’m really frustrated with some of PlayStation’s policies here in Georgia. It seems like their restrictions are pretty harsh. For example, I wanted to buy the Bloodborne DLC digitally because my physical copy doesn’t include it, but I’m unable to because they only support 50 countries. On top of that, I can’t change my account region. I tried to buy a Digital Gift Card, but since my account is set to the UK and the gift card was for the USA, I was stuck. I had to create a whole new account just to make that work. Can someone help me understand the purpose behind these limitations?

The first issue is pretty straightforward. Sony probably doesn’t think it will be profitable to expand into more countries. There could be a lot of factors at play, like government taxes or the cost of setting up the necessary infrastructure. If they saw potential profit, I’m sure they would consider it.
As for the second issue, I think it’s to prevent users from hopping between regions to exploit price differences or access content that might not be legally available in their current location. It’s definitely frustrating, though!
That makes sense, but they could allow region changes like Steam or Google Play does, maybe every three months or so?
