I’m just a level 5 player, but I’ve noticed something odd in the Shiptool server stats—Nelson seems to do an average of 5k more damage than Rodney at my level and after at least 50 battles. Can anyone explain what Nelson does that gives it such a damage advantage over Rodney?

One reason Nelson might be doing more damage is because of her superheal ability. It allows her to survive longer in battles, which gives her more opportunities to deal damage overall. Plus, she fits better with the current campy-snipe-y playstyle that’s popular right now, while Rodney struggles a bit with that meta.
The main thing is that Nelson is considered a rare ship, meaning players who own her often have more experience. Rodney, being a newer release, has more inexperienced players using her, which could lead to lower damage numbers. Stat-wise, Nelson has better long-range dispersion and damage per minute (DPM), which helps her in battles.
It’s also about playstyle, really. Nelson’s HE shells have a higher fire chance, boosting her average damage through burning enemies. If you’re trying to play aggressively, Rodney might feel like a ‘floating oxymoron’ since she’s designed to push but can be slow and fragile.
