I recently noticed a new issue with my Xbox Series X. When I turn it on cold (haven’t used it for over 12 hours), the UPS powering it (a CyberPower 1350VA/810W battery backup, less than a year old) shuts off after about 1-2 minutes. The console is in a well-ventilated spot with no overheating or other devices nearby. The UPS is a pretty big unit, so I’m puzzled why it’s tripping. Has anyone experienced this or know what could be causing it and how to fix it? Is this a common problem with Xbox Series X and UPS units?

Make sure that your UPS is only powering the Xbox and the display during your tests. Having other devices plugged into the same UPS can push it over its limit, even if it seems like it should handle the load. Also, check if your UPS battery is still healthy. Batteries can degrade in under a year sometimes and cause sudden shutdowns when under load.
Sounds like your UPS might be struggling to handle the Xbox’s power draw, especially if it’s a simulated sine wave model. Some gaming consoles are picky and prefer a pure sine wave UPS because it supports their power supply better. Even though your UPS is rated for 810W, startup power surges can cause it to trip. You might want to try plugging the Xbox straight into the wall outlet for a while to see if the issue persists, just to rule out the UPS as the cause.
Sometimes UPS units can fail silently or have firmware quirks that trigger shutoffs unexpectedly. Since your UPS is under a year old, I’d suggest checking if there’s a firmware update or resetting the UPS. Also, confirm that the outlet the UPS is connected to isn’t causing voltage issues. If nothing works, contacting CyberPower support might help figure out if it’s a defective unit.
Good idea, I haven’t tried bypassing the UPS yet—I’ll test that tonight and see what happens.
