I have a Z690-A Strix motherboard, an Intel i7 12700K CPU, an RTX 5080 graphics card, and 64GB of DDR4 3600MHz RAM. My PC boots fine, but as soon as I launch any game or do heavy tasks, it crashes and I have to hold the power button to shut it down. I’ve tried reseating the riser cable and GPU, set PCIe to Gen 3, tested XMP profiles 1 and 2 but both cause crashes. I’ve also experimented with voltages from 1.37V to 1.41V and lowered RAM speed from 3600MHz down to 3200MHz. On BIOS auto settings at 2133MHz, the system seems stable. What could be causing these crashes? Considering going back to my 3080 Ti if this 5080 keeps acting up. Any ideas?

Since you upgraded from a 3080 Ti to a 5080 on the same build, and have Corsair Vengeance RAM, I’d suspect RAM compatibility or stability issues too. Even though DDR4 is usually straightforward, sometimes specific kits have trouble running high speeds on certain motherboards or with newer GPUs. Maybe try running a memory test or dropping the RAM speed further to see if that helps.
From what I’ve seen, recent Nvidia drivers for the RTX 5080 are pretty buggy and causing crashes for a bunch of people. Might be worth waiting for the next driver update to see if that fixes the stability issues. If it gets unbearable, returning the card or switching to a 40 series might save you a headache.
Yeah, the build isn’t new, but upgrading the GPU triggered this. I haven’t tried a full memory test yet, that’s a good idea, thanks!
