I’ve had my PS5 for about 3-4 months, but recently it turned off on its own for the first time. I’ve got all my settings adjusted so that it shouldn’t switch off or go into rest mode unless I choose to. Coming from Xbox, this is a new issue for me because my previous console never shut itself off even after being on for days. I have a tendency to leave it running for a while, sometimes up to a day, but now I walked into my room after about 5 hours and found it turned off. I’m worried I might have damaged something, and I’m concerned about losing my data if this keeps happening. I got this console mainly for Ghost of Tsushima and can’t wait for the upcoming Yotei update. Any tips on why this is happening and how to prevent it would be greatly appreciated!

Your PS5 might be overheating, which can cause it to shut down for safety reasons. I have a few ideas: check if the console is in a well-ventilated area and consider cleaning out the fan if it’s dusty. Also, double-check your settings just to be safe. If none of that works, try plugging it into a different outlet or using another power cable. Hope this helps!
Overheating seems likely. I’ve experienced this too, and cleaning the fans made a difference for mine. If you’re nervous about taking it apart, there are plenty of tutorials online that can guide you through it. You might be surprised at how easy it can be!
It’s still so new that I wouldn’t think it would need cleaning already, but that could be it. I don’t trust my abilities to take apart systems to fix them, but if it doesn’t stop, I might have to figure it out.
You actually should clean your console every 3-6 months, even if it’s new. I waited a long time and when mine started shutting off, I cleaned it out and now it works perfectly again. You don’t have to be a pro to do it; just check out some YouTube videos for guidance. They really help!
Ok, thanks! I will check some out and see if I have the right tools.
I will check and try this out thank you.
