Hey everyone, I’ve got a weird issue with my PC that I can’t figure out. When I start up, everything works fine, but whenever I’m playing a game and about to load a new zone, my motherboard’s LED lights up red briefly and then goes off as the zone finishes loading. Also, whenever I try to enable an XMP profile in the BIOS, my system won’t boot anymore. Has anyone seen this before or have ideas on what might be causing it?
Here are my specs:
– CPU: Intel i7 14000k
– Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X790-H
– RAM: Corsair Vengeance Dual 32GB
– PSU: 850W
– GPU: NVIDIA 4080 Super

First off, have you double-checked that your BIOS is fully updated? The i7 14000k is pretty new, and sometimes early BIOS versions don’t support new CPUs well. If the BIOS is outdated, it could cause weird errors like the red LED during heavy loads or zone changes in games.
Another thing to consider: some high-end setups with new CPUs and motherboards sometimes have early firmware bugs that affect things like XMP and power delivery during load transitions. If your BIOS is updated but issues continue, keep an eye out for newer BIOS releases or patches from ASUS. Also, make sure your power supply is delivering clean and stable power, although your 850W is solid for that build.
Based on your description, the motherboard lighting up red during specific game moments often points to memory instability or issues with CPU VRM under load. Since your system won’t boot with XMP enabled, it sounds like your RAM might not be stable at those higher speeds or your motherboard may have trouble handling the XMP timings with your current RAM sticks.
That makes sense. I’ll try running some memory tests and maybe dial back the RAM speeds manually without XMP to see if stability improves.
Yeah, my BIOS is updated. I noticed that in CPU-Z, my RAM sticks are running at 4000MHz instead of the rated speed, so I’m starting to suspect the RAM might be faulty or incompatible.
