I recently fired up a game after a long break, and even though I have everything maxed out and I’m playing at 4K on my new RTX 5080, the visuals look blurry and like they’re running in low resolution. It’s really disappointing since the graphics should be crisp. I’ve tinkered with settings but nothing seems to fix the problem. Any ideas on what might cause this or how to fix it?

First thing to check is whether the game is actually outputting at the resolution your display expects. Sometimes games default to something like 720p even if you select 4K. Also, DLSS and FSR settings can affect clarity a lot. Try turning DLSS off or switching between the anti-aliasing modes like Off, TAA, or DLAA to see if that sharpens things up. Another setting to look for is SubSampling Quality—make sure it’s set to ‘High’ so the game renders the 3D world fully at your chosen resolution instead of upscaling from a lower one.
I had a similar issue, and it turned out my PC was using the wrong GPU for the game. There can be some sneaky NVIDIA pop-ups that appear and mess with which graphics card gets used, without you really noticing. Double-check that your RTX 5080 is the one running the game. Also, make sure your desktop resolution matches what the game is set to, because if the game auto-selects a resolution your display or PC doesn’t like, it can make everything look blurry or off.
Have you tried playing with the contrast or other display settings directly? Sometimes the issue isn’t just resolution or anti-aliasing. If it looks like you’re stuck at 720p visuals despite the settings, it might help to toggle fullscreen and windowed modes, or repair and reinstall the game to reset any corrupted config files. It sounds like you’ve tried a lot, but sometimes these multipronged tweaks can kick the visuals back into shape.
