I’ve noticed that my boyfriend seems to find shiny Pokémon almost every other day, sometimes even multiple in a single day. Meanwhile, I managed to get just one shiny Vanillite during the last few minutes of our community day, and that was after he picked up my phone while I was driving! It feels like I never come across shinies anymore. Is he just lucky, or is there something specific that influences shiny appearances?

Sometimes it feels like the shiny odds can be really fickle! I went months without finding one, then suddenly caught shiny G-Max Snorlax followed by shiny Cresselia in quick succession. It’s all about those streaks!
There could be a few factors at play here! First off, he might be catching Pokémon that are permaboosted, like Lickitung or Scyther, which have higher shiny odds. Second, if he hatches a lot of eggs, that can also increase shiny chances. Lastly, participating in field research tasks can yield shinies too, so if he’s doing those regularly, that might explain his luck!
It sounds like you and your boyfriend may have different catching styles. Have you checked how many Pokémon each of you has caught? Sometimes the numbers can really put things into perspective!
Honestly, I’ve been playing for years and only have about 20 shinies. It’s tough out there! Are you sure you’re clicking on every Pokémon you see? That can make a big difference.
