I’m curious why Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII seems to be so prominently featured in various promotions and collaborations, even though FF13 isn’t highly regarded by many fans. Recently, I’ve noticed her heavy presence in marketing, like the new MTG collab, which sparked my interest. Personally, I enjoyed FF13, but I’d love to hear why Square Enix seems to push her character everywhere, especially when she doesn’t appear as universally loved compared to other characters. What do you all think?

She stands out as the only main female protagonist from the 3D era who isn’t your typical girly character. But you can see that XIII hasn’t had the same cultural impact since other games got commander decks whereas XIII didn’t really get one.
I think Lightning was more popular in Japan than in Western markets. It’s a common sentiment that XIII overall didn’t hit as hard outside Japan, but she definitely had a strong following there.
True, but to be fair, XIII did see some representation in card form for the main party, even if they skipped the villain.
