I’ve been diving into Final Fantasy VII Remake and now Rebirth, and I have to say I really love the characters. However, the pacing of the story is leaving me a bit confused. It starts off strong, but I’ve reached a point where I feel lost with all the mini-games and side quests. For instance, we’ve had that parade scene, explored the ghost square, and now it seems I’m stuck playing card games. The story feels disjointed with too many distractions. I’ve also been playing FFX alongside it, which, despite being less visually impressive, feels more linear but much more focused on its story. While FFVII is colorful and lively, I can’t shake the feeling that it lacks depth compared to FFX. Anyone else feel this way?

The mini-games are overwhelming. In the original, they were more like fun side activities, but now they feel like they’re taking over the actual game. I think they just added too much fluff without adding real substance to the story.
Totally agree! The emotional beats can get lost amidst all the fluff. Like you said, the original had pacing issues, but it didn’t feel as stuffed with unnecessary mini-games.
You’re definitely not alone in feeling that! They took a 40-hour game and stretched it into two games of almost 200 hours, which really messes with the pacing. Some folks love the expanded content, but for others, it can feel way too slow and cumbersome with all those mini-games.
Right? It feels like I’m playing a single-player Mario Party instead of a serious RPG. And if I’m getting this many mini-games now, I dread what’s coming in the Golden Saucer!
Exactly! The original had optional mini-games that didn’t disrupt the flow of the story as much. Here, they feel mandatory, and it can be frustrating!
I get what you’re saying! While the characters are amazing, the pacing in both the Remake and Rebirth is rough. It almost feels like they didn’t really change the years-old complaints about the pacing of the original. It could definitely use some trimming and focus.
For sure! It’s wild that after going through Remake, Rebirth still feels just as bloated. I actually find myself missing the sharper pacing of the first part now!
And don’t even get me started on all the hand-holding in Rebirth. Sometimes I just want the freedom to explore and engage with the game on my terms!
I think you’re spot on about the pacing and filler. The character interactions are good, but everything feels strung out. If you’re looking for a more directed experience, the original definitely has its charm with a sharper focus on story.
Yeah, it’s a shame because the base story is amazing. It just gets bogged down by so much unnecessary content.
For what it’s worth, I do think the remake trilogy adds depth to the characters, but they missed an opportunity to refine the pacing. A mix of both approaches would’ve been perfect!
Nailed it! The original just let you get to know the characters without all these forced distractions. It’s a shame because I want to love Rebirth more.
