Hey everyone! I’m dealing with a frustrating issue while trying to play Fallout 76 on my new build. I recently upgraded from an old PC that struggled with the game, so I got a new one with an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G processor, a Radeon Vega graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB NVME hard drive.
When I launch the game through Steam, it starts loading but often gets stuck right after I spawn in or even during the loading screen. The mouse works, but nothing else does, and trying to close the game through Steam or the X button on the window doesn’t help at all. The only way out is to force restart my PC, which I know isn’t good for it. I’m running the game on low settings, so I’m really hoping someone has some advice on getting it to run smoothly without these crashes!

It sounds like the game might be hogging your RAM, especially since the integrated GPU can be pretty demanding on memory. You could try adding more RAM to your setup, or eventually, upgrading to a dedicated graphics card if that’s an option for you. That might resolve some of the instabilities you’re facing!
Have you tried monitoring your system stats while playing? Installing HWInfo can help check if anything’s peaking at 100%, like your CPU or temps. Sometimes overheating can cause these issues, but it could also be the reverse, where the system needs to warm up before it’s stable!
A quick tip: if you want Task Manager to always be on top, open it with Control + Shift + Escape, then click on the cog icon in the bottom left. This could help you manage the game more easily next time it locks up.
Glad those tips helped! Let us know if they work for you next time it freezes. It can be super annoying, but hopefully, you find a solid fix soon!
You’re not alone! This issue with Fallout 76 tends to happen to a lot of players on PC, especially with Windows 11. I’ve found that if you use virtual desktops, you can switch to one of those, open Task Manager, and kill the Fallout76 process directly. It’s a hassle, but it usually brings the game back to life after a quick restart. Also, try to avoid clicking ‘PRESS ANY KEY TO START’ too quickly—it seems to freeze the game during loading!
I usually let my PC rest before starting the game, so I doubt it’s overheating. But maybe I should try launching it after running some other applications to warm it up first!
