I’ve been trying my hand at thievery in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but it seems like everywhere I go, the guards are on high alert! I robbed a house in Zhelejov at night without a hitch, and then later, I hit the Rathhaus in Trosky during a quest, again without getting caught. But when I returned to Trosky a few days later, the guards stopped me and wanted me to pay 400 Groschen for my stolen goods, which had supposedly lost their stolen status. I even reloaded my save and tried going back to Zhelejov, but they also detained me and demanded 500 for three stolen items. Is there some kind of timer I need to account for, or is there something else I need to do before I can safely enter these cities again?

Best practice is to avoid the area where you’re planning to rob on the same day. If you visit even a day before the robbery and someone spots you, they’ll nail you as the suspect. Plan ahead and keep a distance before and after the job to avoid any heat!
Just check if there’s a jailhouse icon on the map. Avoid going to places where you’re wanted, or be ready to talk your way out of it. They’ll eventually drop the charges after a few days!
If the guards see you sneaking around, even without catching you, they might connect the dots if something goes missing later on. Check the map for a jail icon next to the city name; it means you’re wanted. Once that’s cleared or you can bribe them, you should be good to return!
You need to make sure there are no witnesses when you commit your crimes. If anyone sees you loitering around, you’re likely to be suspected if something gets stolen. This game has a much more realistic take on crime compared to others. Always ensure you’re far from your target before plotting a heist!
These are small towns, everyone knows each other. If something’s stolen and you were the stranger in town, guess who they think did it?
Lol, I got stopped for a murder while fast traveling! Surprised I had to pay 3200 Groschen for it. Never even remembered doing it; maybe Henry had a wild night!
Right? I learned the hard way after a few errors! I once had to wipe out a whole group of NPCs just to clear a path. Not ideal, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!
