I’ve noticed something weird during dungeon runs where the tank sometimes decides to solo the boss for like 15 minutes instead of wiping and resetting. This happens even when the run is going smoothly or if the tank themselves caused party wipes by missing mechanics, like not plugging flame pits in Scalecaller Peak. It seems counterproductive and kind of frustrating. Is it just pride? Or maybe something else? Why is this such a common thing?

Honestly, pride plays a massive role here. Some tanks just hate the idea of wiping and want to drag out the fight to prove they can still win, no matter how long it takes. It’s like they want to show off their toughness or outlast the boss solo even if the rest of the party is down.
I’ve seen this too and sometimes I actually root for the tank to pull it off, especially if the team’s wiped and the tank’s the last one alive. If the boss is close to dying, it can make sense to try and solo rather than restart the run. Of course, 15 minutes is pretty overkill, but yeah, tanks can and do finish off bosses solo occasionally.
What I suspect is a lot of these are actually DPS players pretending to be tanks—like they pick tankier builds with big HP pools but aren’t actually expert tanks. Because they survive longer, they think soloing the boss is a badge of honor. The game kinda encourages this too with achievements that don’t care about speedruns or teamwork, so players abuse it by dragging out fights. So it’s a mix of misunderstood roles and some selfish play style.
From my experience, some tanks get really laser-focused on staying alive and tanking the boss mechanics, which can make them totally miss things like calling for a reset or noticing when it’s better to wipe. Sometimes they just zoned in on surviving AoEs and forgot about the bigger picture. Also, some players want to put their build to the test by trying to solo boss encounters even in dungeon runs, for fun or bragging rights.
