I’ve noticed a frustrating trend lately where players seem to ignore objectives in Destiny, and it feels worse than ever. No matter if it’s a simple Vanguard Ops, a Dungeon or Raid, or even Nightfalls on any difficulty, many players act like they’re allergic to the objectives. I totally get that we all start somewhere, and I love helping new players learn the ropes. But it’s hard to understand why players who know the game still refuse to engage with the objectives! For example, I recently attempted multiple Nightfalls, including two LFGs for the same Master Mode Nightfall, and it was a nightmare. Players failed to recognize or engage with vital mechanics, like jumping across gaps to remove taken blights, or avoiding dangerous enemies. Even in more organized settings like Dungeons and Raids, players will often shy away from objectives, leading to frustrating scenarios where teams are just waiting and not moving. It’s baffling how hard it is to get people to complete straightforward objectives — it’s not about being scared to mess up; it’s about not even trying to communicate or engage. So why does this happen? What can we do to encourage players to stick to the objectives?

Yeah, it’s been an ongoing issue since the first Destiny. Players get so caught up in the moment and the thrill of shooting that they often overlook everything else, almost like they’re in a trance. There’s so much happening that players tend to miss simple objectives and mechanics.
A lot of players just want to enjoy the gunplay in Destiny and treat it like a standard shooter. They don’t want to deal with any mechanics beyond pressing a button on the big objective icon. In PvP, every mode just seems like a different way to shoot other players, and objectives become secondary.
Totally agree! I’ve seen the same mentality in other games like The Division, where players just want to shoot things and ignore the mechanics. It’s like some folks forget about teamwork! Guess we should just be glad the Destiny community appreciates the dungeons and raids.
Crazy, right? They’ll ignore simple goals that just involve shooting things, focusing instead on taking down endless ads. Then they wonder why they didn’t contribute when they see their kill counts without engaging with the actual objectives.
Also, Bungie often includes non-team based challenges that lead players to ignore team objectives. I hope they implement a solo mode that encourages more cooperation, but they really need to design quests more around team play.
I think part of the problem also lies in the lack of clear objectives and in-game communication. Many new players don’t even know the basics like infusing armor or how certain mechanics work. Vital info is hidden in weekly updates rather than being accessible in-game, which is ridiculous.
Exactly! Just this week, I had to explain to a teammate how to deal damage during specific phases despite the game showing them what to do. Some players just refuse to learn, even with guidance.
Totally! Since they sunsetted a lot of content, now we have these patchwork tutorials that barely help new players understand the game. It really makes learning feel overwhelming.
It’s like in that counting video, where a gorilla walks through and you don’t even notice! Players are so fixated on their own experience that they fail to see the big picture.
