I recently got a brand new Xbox for Christmas in 2024, and I’m playing Fortnite using a wireless controller with a plugged-in mic. Lately, I’ve been experiencing some frustrating issues where the sound gets really static-y and lags before my character freezes and the controller shuts off completely. It even tells me that I need a controller to continue playing. I’ve checked, and both controllers are fully charged and undamaged. My Xbox is right in front of me while our WiFi router is behind a wall in another room. This problem happens with both controllers, both of which were purchased within the last year. Does anyone know what might be causing this? It’s really irritating!

Have you checked if there’s any software update available for your controller? Sometimes those updates can really fix odd glitches like this. Also, what kind of batteries are you using? Might sound basic, but sometimes they can make a big difference.
I was dealing with the same problem a few weeks ago. Some days I’d get lucky and go 20 minutes without issues, but other times it would happen multiple times in a minute. Strangely, it eventually cleared up on its own. It happened to me with both an Xbox Series X and an Xbox One controller, so it might not just be your specific controller.
You might want to try playing without the headset to see if that makes a difference in battery life. If the issue persists even with the controller plugged in, it might help narrow down what’s causing the shut-offs.
I’ve had similar issues before! One quick fix that sometimes works is unplugging the console for about 30 seconds to reset it. If that doesn’t help, consider a factory reset option to keep your games and apps. Just so you know, your router shouldn’t be affecting the controllers.
