I recently bought a new gaming laptop with solid specs, but I’ve run into an issue. While playing Minecraft, I usually get around 170 FPS, but as soon as I turn on shaders, it crashes down to about 10 FPS. This happens with various shader packs. Interestingly, the system doesn’t show signs of being overloaded—CPU usage hovers around 20-25%, and GPU is at 0%. My old, less powerful laptop handled the same shaders at 40-50 FPS. Any ideas why this might be happening?

I’ve had a similar problem and it turned out to be with the power settings on the laptop. Make sure your laptop’s power plan is set to high performance and not on any power-saving mode which might limit GPU performance.
It might be worth checking your graphics drivers. Sometimes they don’t automatically update, especially on a new system. Also, you should look into your GPU settings to make sure Minecraft is using the dedicated graphics instead of integrated graphics, which might be causing the low performance.
Sometimes when Minecraft’s FPS drops with shaders, it can be due to incorrect settings in the client. Try reinstalling the client or tweaking the settings in Lunar Client. Ensure it’s fully optimized for your GPU and all shader settings are correct. Also, double-check any power-saving settings might be affecting performance.
You should try to disable any unnecessary background applications. They can hog resources and undermine your FPS. Even if your system usage doesn’t show high, some apps can still conflict with the game, especially third-party software running alongside Minecraft.
Since you’re using Lunar Client, ensure it’s the latest version and that you have the right mod configurations. Sometimes shader issues can be mod-related, so checking compatibility and updates could solve the problem.
If your GPU isn’t kicking in, Minecraft might be defaulting to integrated graphics. Try going to your graphics settings and force Minecraft to run with the dedicated GPU. That should help with the performance issues.
Your description sounds like it could be a GPU issue. Since your usage is at 0%, it might not be engaging with Minecraft. Verify in the NVIDIA or AMD control panel that the dedicated GPU is set for the game.
I’m using Lunar Client with Fabric enabled, which worked on my old laptop.
