I just built a brand new PC and I’m currently waiting for my monitor to arrive. In the meantime, I decided to lock my FPS to 60, but I’m experiencing some frustrating FPS drops—sometimes it dips to as low as 30, even though my GPU utilization is only between 20% and 30%. Interestingly, when I unlock the FPS, I easily get 150 to 200 frames. Does anyone have any idea why locking the FPS causes such drops?

What tool or method are you using to lock your framerate? Maybe it’s an issue with the in-game settings that need tweaking.
It sounds like you might be dealing with v-sync issues. When v-sync is on, it can cut the frame rate in half instead of just dropping to 59 FPS if it can’t maintain 60 FPS. You might want to try turning off v-sync entirely to see if that helps.
Are you serious right now? That sounds wild!
I get that you’re looking to avoid v-sync, but it might be worth it to test it out anyway.
I’m actually locking it through the in-game settings.
