I’m new to the Halo franchise, starting with Halo Infinite’s campaign, and I’m feeling a bit guilty. I hear that games like Halo 3 and Halo 2 are supposed to be the best, but I find Halo 3 slow and kind of boring. On the other hand, Halo 2 has some epic moments, but I couldn’t get into playing as the Arbiter. I’m a huge fan of ODST and Reach, yet going through them a second time is tough for me. Meanwhile, I’ve replayed Infinite several times and enjoy it a lot. Am I broken or is it normal to feel this way?

Don’t sweat it! It’s totally fine to enjoy newer games more, especially since they often come with better quality of life features. If you’re not getting into the classics, don’t force it. Watching a Let’s Play might be a good way to appreciate those older titles without diving in yourself.
That’s just your personal taste, and it’s great! If you’re on PC, there are mods that can help older games feel more modern, like a grappling hook mod for Halo CE or a parkour mod that adds a lot of fun.
Remember, a lot of the love for those classics is rooted in nostalgia and the context of their times. Back then, the community was huge, and the marketing was everywhere. It’s like the Halo equivalent of how big Fortnite is now. Plus, the storytelling in the original trilogy is a lot richer than in Infinite, even if the gameplay pace is different.
You’re not alone in this! It’s perfectly okay to have different favorites. Halo Infinite has a lot going for it, and if that’s what you enjoy, go for it! I feel the same way; it’s one of my top Halo games after Halo 2.
Much of the admiration for earlier games is tied to the vibes they generated back then. While you might hear claims that they’re objectively amazing, enjoy what’s fun for you. Play what you love!
Can you break down what you mean by ‘objectively’? That’s a big word!
