I’ve recently started feeling nauseous when playing first-person games, and I can’t figure out why. It’s kind of erratic; sometimes I’m fine on PC, but using a controller makes me feel sick almost instantly in games like Fallout or BioShock, while I can easily enjoy others like Road 96 and Cyberpunk with no issues. I typically don’t experience nausea while gaming, but with about 80% of the first-person games I play on consoles, I end up feeling really sick. It would help if more games had an FOV (Field of View) slider. Has anyone else experienced this? Any tips?

I dealt with this too—playing more consistently actually helped me get used to it. When I took breaks, the nausea would come back. Recently I was able to play Ghostwire Tokyo without needing to stop after 30 minutes like before, and I’m not really sure why!
Definitely look out for motion blur and depth of field effects. I started getting really nauseous while playing and disabling those effects made a huge difference. Don’t forget about head bob too; some games really crank it up!
It might be a mix of FOV, refresh rates, and how far you sit from your screen. Consoles usually have a lower FPS than PCs, which could contribute to the problem. I’d check your setup and see if that changes anything.
That makes sense! I sit around 8-9 feet away from my TV on consoles, but I’m closer with my monitor for PC.
Try turning off motion blur, camera shake, and depth of field in the game settings. This has helped me a lot! If those effects are active, they can make you feel sick pretty quickly, especially in a first-person perspective.
Same here! Motion blur is the first thing I ditch when I start any game.
Totally agree! If I don’t disable motion blur, I start feeling queasy after just a few minutes.
You’re not alone! I’ve had the same issues with first-person games, getting migraines or nausea. It’s a bummer, especially when new games come out in that perspective. I’ve just learned to stick with third-person games for my health!
Yeah, it sucks! Missing out on amazing games like Doom because of it is the worst.
Totally feel you! BioShock Infinite was a rough ride for me because of that same bobbing effect—some games really need an FOV slider!
