Hey everyone! I’m a bit late to the party, but I just wrapped up Resident Evil Village (RE8), and I have some thoughts. I absolutely loved the beginning—everything from the aesthetic to the immersive gameplay really hooked me. Exploring the town and the castle was a blast, and the horror elements in House Beneviento were executed really well, especially that creepy basement segment. However, once I hit Moreau’s area, the quality seemed to drop significantly, and it started to feel less enjoyable for me. Even though there were some cool parts in Heisenberg’s factory, it became repetitive and felt like a completely different game compared to the awesome start. I expected a bit more consistency throughout. Is the second half of this game typical for Resident Evil? This is actually my first RE game, so if the latter half is standard for the series, let me know! I’m just left feeling a bit disappointed about how it turned out, especially when the beginning was so promising.

Honestly, I found the entire game a bit off. The first half really played up the horror, while the second half felt more action-oriented. If you’re looking for great horror action, I’d recommend trying the RE4 remake next—lots of people think it maintains the intensity throughout!
RE4 is awesome! I think you’ll enjoy the pacing a lot more—it’s a classic.
It’s a common pattern with Resident Evil games—many players notice a drop in quality in the later stages. Typically, the first half has a strong setting that draws you in, then you hit a middle section that’s not as exciting, followed by some kind of facility or lab that doesn’t quite live up to the initial vibe. Don’t feel too bad if that impacted your experience!
Totally agree! The build-up at the start is usually the most intriguing part. It’s like they create this intense atmosphere, then the later segments just don’t have the same punch.
That’s exactly how I felt! I went in blind too and hoped for a consistent experience, but it felt a little off after the castle.
For me, RE8 feels like a theme park with different sections—lots of variety but some areas might feel repetitive if you stick with one theme too long. I think if they had focused on expanding the initial vibe through the entire game, it wouldn’t have felt so uneven. But hey, that variability also makes it replayable for folks like me!
I see what you’re saying! The gameplay shifts were actually a highlight for me, but I get how it can come off as a mix ‘n match vibe.
Exactly, switching between themes might keep things fresh but it risks losing the tone that hooked us in the first place.
I’ve gotta disagree on the factory being not fun; I enjoyed that whole Frankenstein aesthetic! But I get what you’re saying about it feeling different. I’m just one of those who also liked the boat segment from RE7, so maybe I’m the odd one out.
Haha, maybe! But I thought it was cool too; it added a fun twist!
Yeah, you might be rare in enjoying that! But it’s cool to see different takes on the game.
Totally feel you on this one. Compared to earlier games like RE2, RE8 has a different vibe, being less serious and wackier. It’s still fun, though! Trying RE7 next is a great idea; it’s got the horror elements you’re looking for and ties in nicely with the story.
Exactly! I think playing 7 will help bridge that gap for you. It has a more consistent feel.
Definitely give it a shot! You’ll appreciate the horror aspects more coming from RE8.
Yeah, I’ve heard great things about that one. Definitely planning to check it out!
