We were playing Fortnite when my husband’s PS4 beeped three times and just powered off. Upon trying to restart it, it attempted to rebuild the database but shut down again! This PS4 is the original model from around 2014/2015. We use it daily for long gaming sessions without any problems, so this was really surprising. We’ve read that it could be overheating or an issue with the power cord. Is it that simple? Also, we’re worried about his save data – we’re not sure if it’s backed up to the Cloud. How can we check or recover it if it’s not?

If you haven’t taken it apart, that could be a next step, but be careful! Overheating often leads to those shutdowns. Also, check your PS4 settings to see if automatic uploads to the Cloud are enabled. If not, recovering the save data might be tricky, but you can try connecting the hard drive to a PC and see if any data can be retrieved.
It definitely sounds like it could be overheating. Have you guys ever opened it up to clean out any dust? This can really help with airflow. Using canned air is good, but sometimes you need a deeper clean to keep things running smoothly.
