Hey folks, I’m really frustrated! I tried to dive into Skyrim on my Xbox One, but it keeps demanding updates. I turned on my hotspot and ended up wasting 20GB just to be hit with another update request. I’ve tried everything—restarting the console, going offline, and shutting off my hotspot. Now, my phone’s overheating and losing battery as it’s been on for over 5 hours. It’s ridiculous that I can’t play this single-player offline game without it insisting on these updates. If it was something like Elder Scrolls Online, I’d get it, but this is getting out of hand. Honestly, I’m almost considering dusting off my old 360 just to enjoy Skyrim! What’s the deal with this?

If all else fails, you could try uninstalling and then reinstalling Skyrim. That usually forces the last updates to download too. Just a thought!
Most games nowadays don’t come fully updated on the disc, even ‘complete editions’ like Skyrim often need patches for glitches. It’s just the state of gaming today—most game developers assume you have high-speed internet access. Unfortunately, you can’t dodge all updates for single-player titles since some are crucial for fixing major issues. Do you live in an area where internet access is really spotty?
For single-player games like Skyrim, if the game is able to save without needing a cloud or internet connection, you should technically be able to play offline. However, this can depend on how the game was set up. I did this with Fallout 4 a while back, but I’m not sure if it’s the same now. Have you checked if this option is available?
Unfortunately, once your Xbox sees that there’s an update available, you have to download it. To avoid this in the future, you’d need to keep your console offline before it recognizes any updates. But it sounds like that’s not an option now. Do you not have access to any other internet besides your phone’s hotspot? It might be worth it to find a better connection for updating your games.
That sounds like a hassle! Trying to game on a phone hotspot isn’t ideal. Maybe check if a friend’s house is a better place to update? You’ll save your data that way!
Yeah, it might just come down to the specific game version. Some older titles provide that offline capability, so it’s worth checking!
