I’ve been wondering about the presence of super mutants in Fallout 76. It seems a bit off to me compared to their appearances in previous games. In Fallout 1 and 2, they were a result of military experiments, and in Fallout 3, Vault-Tec’s involvement made sense. Even in Fallout 4, it can be explained as reverse engineering from those found in the Capital Wasteland. But in 76, I just can’t wrap my head around it. Can anyone shed some light on why they exist in this game?

Honestly, super mutants add a fun challenge to the game! I mean, it’s all fictional, right? Whether they should be there or not, it makes for great gameplay!
For what it’s worth, I think there’s a solid argument for their presence. The super mutants you encounter in 76 are mostly from the experiments done at Westek. They even go into details about how these experiments unfolded, which is kinda cool. They even have pre-war roots, tying back to military testing.
That’s a neat angle! I feel the lore helps ground the chaos.
Totally get what you’re saying! But lore-wise, it’s explained that the military used FEV in Huntersville, adding it to the water supply to see what would happen. So, it’s not just random. There’s a whole backstory they built for the presence of super mutants in the game!
It’s wild how much story they packed in. Wish I had paid more attention to it all!
Dude, there’s actually a mission that explains everything about how the super mutants came to Appalachia. If you haven’t checked it out, it might change your perspective! You’d be surprised how much story is hidden in the quests!
I need to get on that! Sounds like I missed a lot!
You know, it does seem a bit murky why they’re in Fallout 76 if you haven’t dived into the lore. They were actually a result of FEV experiments conducted by Westek, which poisoned the water supply in Huntersville. It’s a little convoluted, but once you get into the story, it makes more sense!
Yeah, I guess if you read through all the terminals and notes, it’s all there. Just takes some digging!
Exactly! Plus, it adds some variety to the enemy types.
