I’m really frustrated with my PlayStation controller lately. I just dropped $70 on it, and out of nowhere, the stick started drifting like it’s been thrown around carelessly. I take good care of my gear and don’t treat my controllers rough at all, yet it’s affecting my gameplay—almost every title I enjoy is now unplayable. I used to own a PS4, and in all those years, I never had a single issue with stick drift. Am I just unlucky with this one? Has anyone else experienced this, and what do you do about it?

Honestly, maybe use your controller normally instead of acting like you’re throwing it around. Seems like your gameplay may be part of the issue.
In my two decades of gaming on PlayStation, I’ve never experienced stick drift. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, or the games I play aren’t tough on the joysticks as others might be.
What games do you usually play? I primarily enjoy single-player titles like Spider-Man 2 and Hotline Miami.
It’s wild how some people just brush off stick drift as a non-issue. It’s more common than people think. I’ve had drift problems with my PS5 and both my Xbox controllers within the first six months. My advice? Consider getting an extended warranty or protection plan—it’s worth it to save you money in the long run.
I used to have about 7 or 8 controllers due to drift. Finally, I gave the Edge controller a shot, and it’s been solid for over a year now. If I notice issues pop up, I’ll just replace the sticks myself.
It’s really strange because I have four controllers from the PS5 launch, and I’ve had no issues with stick drift at all. Seems like some folks just luck out, while others get hit hard by this problem.
I’m super jealous! I bought mine from a friend, and it started showing some drift early on. Guess I’ll be shelling out for a new one soon too.
Stick drift seems to be a random luck of the draw. Some controllers work great, and others develop issues. It’s a pain to deal with, especially if you end up needing multiple replacements.
Totally understand. I’ve been gaming since I was 5, and I’ve never gotten stick drift until now. I’ve even tweaked the dead zones, but nothing seems to fix it.
Funny you say that, but I actually don’t handle it that way at all. Thanks for your input, though!
