I recently saw on Steam that the scribing system is going free, and I thought it was a fantastic opportunity. I jumped onto the discussion board but was met with a ton of negativity. Players were complaining about how they paid for the Gold Road expansion and now others can access its main feature for free. I’m really confused about this reaction. Shouldn’t more people being able to access the content be a good thing? I paid for the expansion too and enjoyed it. My main concern is that this backlash might cause the developers to reconsider releasing free content in the future. Why do some players seem so eager to pay for everything if they don’t have to?

It seems like a lot of players feel a sense of entitlement when they pay for something and then see it become free. They think, “I shelled out cash, so why should others get it for free?” Honestly, it’s just a natural reaction that people have, but in the long run, having more players in the game helps everyone.
I think it comes down to feeling undervalued as a supporter. Players who bought the expansion want to feel recognized for their loyalty. A small gesture from the developers, like exclusive cosmetics for those who bought earlier, could really help ease that sting.
Yeah, that would go a long way. A little recognition for loyalty doesn’t hurt, especially when the game’s been around for so long and new content keeps rolling out.
It’s basically just gamer culture at this point. People have this weird resentment when others get things for free that they had to pay for. It’s like, just because you paid for it, doesn’t mean others can’t enjoy it. There’s enough room for everyone to benefit!
Right? Plus, these same players don’t seem to mind when new games come out cheaper than when they originally bought it – it’s just a weird gamer mentality.
I can completely relate! It’s like any other online game. When something you paid for goes free, it can sting a little. But honestly, it allows more players to engage with the content and that’s a good thing for overall game health. I just think some players need to vent that frustration in a more positive way.
Agreed! Besides, think of all the people who will now experience the game mechanics we enjoyed first. I mean, isn’t that what gaming is all about?
Exactly! It’s often just people who are upset because they feel their investment was somehow invalidated. But at the end of the day, the more players that come in, the better it is for the overall community.
