Hey everyone, I’m running into a weird issue with my Captain 300 headphones while gaming on my PS5. They’ve been super quiet lately, so I have to crank the volume nearly all the way up both on the headphones and the PS5’s audio settings just to get normal sound levels. At first, I thought the headphones were dying, but when I plug them into my Nintendo Switch, they work perfectly fine at normal volume. I mainly use the USB dongle that came with the headphones for connection, not the controller jack. Could my PS5 be the problem here? Any insights would be great!

Since your headphones work fine on the Switch with the USB dongle, it’s probably not the headphones themselves. The PS5 might be having some issue with USB audio output or maybe some settings that affect volume levels for USB devices. Double check your PS5 audio output settings and consider restarting the console or updating its system software if you haven’t already.
You mentioned you’re using the USB dongle and not the controller’s headphone jack, so it’s unlikely a faulty controller jack. Sometimes, the PS5 can have weird compatibility quirks with certain USB audio devices, causing low volume. You could try plugging the dongle into a different USB port on your PS5, or testing if other USB headphones behave the same way to isolate the issue.
I’ve had similar issues before where my headphones were fine elsewhere but super quiet on the PS5 using the USB dongle. What helped for me was going into the PS5 sound settings and toggling the ‘Output Device’ and ‘Adjust Headphone Level’ options. Also, turn off any special audio effects that might throttle volume. Sometimes these subtle settings can cause volume dropouts on external USB headsets.
