I’m planning to replay Majora’s Mask but I’m unsure whether to go with the original N64 version using 2Ship2Harkinian’s mods or the 3DS version enhanced with Project Restoration. I’m curious about control options, graphics, and any changes to gameplay or boss fights. What would you recommend for the best overall experience?

Honestly, the 3DS version wins out for me despite a few small downsides. I loved the N64 version growing up, but the smoother gameplay and fixes in Project Restoration make the 3DS a better experience overall. If you don’t mind some tweaks and want a fresh take with modern conveniences, go 3DS.
I’d say the 3DS version with Project Restoration is a fantastic choice. The restoration mod fixes a lot of the annoying changes the 3DS version originally had, especially in boss fights. Plus, if you like touch controls, you can set the touch screen on your secondary display and even use something like Steam Link with your phone to get nice touch input. Makes for a smooth and enjoyable playthrough.
I can add that using a PS4 controller’s touchpad for the second screen works surprisingly well too. Though it’s a bit more peripheral to manage compared to using your phone.
I personally hated the boss fight changes in the 3DS version, so I lean towards 2Ship2Harkinian. But if you go with 3DS, definitely check out Project Restoration—it supposedly brings the boss fights much closer to the original.
If you prefer the classic feel, the 2Ship2Harkinian mods for the N64 version are solid. They give you updated textures and models, ironing out the dated graphics without changing the core gameplay too much. It’s a bit of setup but straightforward enough if you’re into modding. Plus, if you dislike the 3DS boss changes, this keeps them original.
That touch screen idea sounds pretty handy! Never thought of using Steam Link like that.
