I’m in the market for a second-hand PC as my current one is on its last legs. I’m not very experienced with AMD GPUs, but the RX 9070 XT seems like a good deal for the price. I’m looking for a reliable setup that can last me 3 to 4 years, focusing on gaming at 1440p with high FPS on high settings, particularly for single-player games. I’ve got two options from private sellers nearby: one features an RTX 4080 paired with a 7800x3d processor, a 1000w Corsair Gold PSU, and 32 GB of RAM. The other has the RX 9070 XT with a 9800x3d processor, an 850w Gold PSU, and also 32 GB of RAM. The AMD GPU build is 100€ more expensive. I’m indifferent about ray tracing and case aesthetics, as both setups have good airflow and sufficient cooling.

Both builds have their merits. The RTX 4080 does have an edge, averaging around 17 FPS more than the 9070 XT at 1440p. However, I would prefer the RX 9070 XT with the 9800x3d for better longevity, especially in a 144Hz setup. It’s almost new too, which makes it a solid choice. Price-wise, the 9070 XT should be less than the 4080 setup, so it might be worth considering!
I would lean towards the RTX 4080 setup since it’s cheaper, but keep in mind that there have been some driver issues reported recently. Generally, the performance difference might not be significant unless you’re very particular about framerates when comparing both rigs side by side.
Just a heads-up, those driver issues are mainly affecting the 50 series cards. They already fixed the black screen glitch for the 40 series, so it should be all good there!
