I’m interested in creating an audiobook version of an RPG that I can distribute for free. Are there specific RPGs that I can legally produce and share?

Before you dive in, are you aiming to audiobook the actual rules, or something set in the game’s universe? If it’s just for your friends, you might skate by under copyright—however, if you’re thinking of creating something original in the fantasy world, definitely tweak the names and concepts! Just a heads-up, RPGs often have really specific lore, which could make things tricky.
Check out the FIST Ultra Edition! It’s released under a Creative Commons License, so you’ve got full permission to do what you want with it. Plus, the devs are really supportive of community content, so they’d likely be excited to see your audiobook!
I’d suggest looking for RPGs that are either in the public domain or have a Creative Commons License. That way, you can be sure you’re covered legally.
Dungeons and Dragons SRD is a solid choice since it’s already in the public domain. You might be able to create something pretty cool with that!
I’m thinking about doing the audiobook version of the rulebook! I’ve been influenced by AudioRPG’s Traveller, and I’d love to see a free game have the same treatment.
